The International Humanitarian and Independent Institution Hope For Children (HFC) UNCRC Policy Centre and the Medical School of the University of Nicosia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to aid children.

Under the MoU medical student volunteers will form the HFC Club and organise periodic visits to the HFC Children’s Shelter under the guidance of the clinical faculty.  Club volunteers will aim to support the well-being of children in several ways; from delivering preventive training sessions on issues such as wellness and personal hygiene, smoking, nutrition, sexually transmitted diseases etc., to performing diagnostic tests, under faculty supervision, and to establishing a ‘Big Brother – Big Sister’ programme.
HFC’s doors are open to all children regardless of religious, cultural or other background. Its aim is to

improve the quality of life of socially disadvantaged children, such as asylum seekers, refugees and children from war-torn areas.

It provides consultancy, advocacy, lobbying and academic research in order to bring about change in the lives of many children and promote their rights and well-being in policy and practice.
HFC is providing rehabilitation and support services to children in need such as victims of sexual abuse, bullying and any kind of abuse or neglect.

It has been operating since July 2014, with the approval and collaboration of the social welfare services, and runs the first private children’s shelter in Cyprus for unaccompanied children, ‘Home for Hope’. The shelter provides holistic and interdisciplinary services to the children that covers all aspects of their daily living.
