Cabinet approved the construction of a reception centre for unaccompanied minors to help meet future demands and handle such cases more efficiently.
The centre, which is to be built and run by the government, will hold 100 persons. Other centres in Cyprus currently host in total 222 unaccompanied minors.
Construction of these facilities will be covered by European funds.
The new centre is part of the government’s efforts to be prepared to receive more children arriving in Cyprus without their parents or other guardians.
It aims to improve internal procedures and the welfare of the children.
